Presenter: Mālama Palapala, Community Archival Workshop, Leeward Community College (September 24, 2016)
Presented by The Association of Hawaiʻi Archivists and the Society of American Archivists student chapter. Presented during Session 1: Mālama Palapala - Physical Care of Documents & Photographs. Created content for, and presented portions of the session regarding unique pests in Hawaii that threaten family collections, pest prevention and techniques on freezing infested materials, identification of books, and photo preservation and storage. Fielded questions from community members in attendance during the presentation.

Mini Service Project in the Jean Charlot Collection - Process Works Service Project for LIS 653 (April - May 2016)
Volunteered with Ellie Seaton and Jennifer Magdaloyo on a project that assisted with continuing work on a compiled file for the Jean Charlot Collection (JCC). This project continued the work that the artist himself started. We removed illustrations or "process works" done by Jean Charlot, found in Commonweal print copies that were being withdrawn from the library's holdings. We were supervised by Librarian V and Curator, Bronwen Solyom. Volunteered 16 hours at the JCC. At the end we submitted a group poster and journal. Click the image to download the poster.

Created promotional flyers promoting the 2016 Hoʻokele Naʻauao Hawaiian Librarianship Symposium. Manned the registration table, helped with setup and cleanup after the event.

Volunteer, Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, Honolulu, HI (May 12, 2018)
Assisted with site visit and assessment of the Pagen Library as part of a service event coordinated by students in the UHM Special Libraries Association. Advised on cataloging, resources, supplies, etc. Further assisted HIMB with finding their resources in the ScholarSpace institutional repository and providing contact info for DNS at UHM Library to them.
Volunteer, Pacific Collection, Hamilton Library, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, Honolulu, HI (May 30 & Jun. 9th, 2017)
Focused on archival duties that involved preservation skills, an understanding of archival theory, and handling of archival materials. Worked on surveying the papers of Samuel H. Elbert. This collection of approximately 7 linear feet, consists of manuscripts, photographs, newspaper clippings, postcards, notebooks, and 35mm slides.
Volunteer (various departments), Honolulu Museum of Art, Honolulu, HI (8-12 hours a week; May 2017 - June 2017)
Volunteered with the Library, Archives, and Collections departments in the museum. Tasks included copy cataloging, digitizing records, assisting with library reference, proper handling of art objects, and other tasks as needed.
Volunteer, Digitizing scrapbooks at the Consuelo Foundation, Honolulu, HI (April 22 & May 9, 2017)
Under the supervision of Archivist Nicki Garces, worked with digitizing an early 20th century scrapbook. Required proper handling of photographs in order to scan scrapbook pages and carefully remove individual photos from scrapbook mounting corners to be scanned while inputting descriptive file titles based on captions in Spanish.

A service event organized by Ellie Keola on behalf of Moanalua Gardens Foundation. Unpacked, shelved, and organized books by Dewey Decimal call number for the Foundation's library to assist with their move into a new office space.
Volunteer, Weeding and Organizing Shelves at the James Harrow Giving Library - Palama Settlement, Honolulu, HI (December 23, 2016)
Assisted as part of a community service project organized by Krystal Kakimoto for Palama Settlement's Giving Library. Weeded duplicates and books in poor condition, arranged and shelved books by subject groupings.
Volunteer, Mold Cleaning at the Hawaiian Historical Society, Honolulu, HI (April 2, 2016)
A service project for the UHM Society of American Archivists student chapter. Helped clean the 8-volume Cook's Voyages series. Lightly brushed each page to remove any additional dirt, mold, etc. used isopropyl alcohol to remove any mold.
Volunteer, Shelf-reading at University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa's Hamilton Library, Honolulu, HI (March 5th, 2016)
A service project for Hui Dui. Split into teams and worked on shelf-reading; ensured proper filing by call number, and pulled books that needed repair, or were misplaced.
Volunteer, Processing Donations from the John Plews Estate at the Hawaiian Historical Society, Honolulu, HI (November 14, 2015)
A service project for the UHM Society of American Archivists student chapter. Input metadata of donated items into spreadsheets and cleaned books as needed in order to get them ready for the HHS Booksale / fundraiser happening in December.

A service project for the UHM Society of American Archivists student chapter. Helped with changing fluorescent light bulbs and applying UV filters to existing and replacement bulbs for the lights above the stacks. Dusted and wiped-down bookshelves, books, magazines, and archival boxes within the collection.
Peer Mentor, Islands of Opportunity Alliance - Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation, Leeward Community College, Aiea, HI (Spring 2014)
Ran weekly problem-solving sessions, created original organic chemistry problems, and peer mentored students enrolled in the Spring 2014 Organic Chemistry 1 (CHEM 272B) course at Leeward Community College. Ran review sessions as necessary before exams.
Co-Event Coordinator, 10th Annual Hawaiʻi State Science Olympiad, Hosted at Leeward Community College, Aiea, HI (March 1, 2014)
Co-planned, oversaw, and observed Metric Mastery within State Finals Division B - 2014, Hawaiʻi State Science Olympiad State Finals Tournament, an event where students from Middle/Intermediate schools competed to go on to the national tournament. Created questions, worksheets, metric problem-solving work stations, and scored student work to determine the winning teams. Also oversaw student volunteers from Leeward Community College assisting with the event. Shared duties evenly with another student, Tiffany Eulalio.
Event Coordinator, Leeward Regional Science Olympiad Tournament, Leeward Community College, Aiea, HI (February 1, 2014)
Planned, oversaw, and judged "Write It/Do It" event in the Leeward Regional Science Olympiad Tournament: a competition where Leeward Oahu high school students qualified for the Hawaiʻi State Science Olympiad (HSSO). Created the model used for the competition, which required partners to use observational skills to describe, in writing, the model they observed (Write it). Their partners would then attempt to re-construct the model their partner described, having never seen it (Do It). Oversaw Leeward Community College student volunteers assisting with the event.
