Technical Documentation, Smithsonian Libraries, Digital Programs and Initiatives Division, Summer 2016
As part of my summer internship with Smithsonian Libraries, I was tasked with the creation of a workflow to take a database export and generate a final XML file in accordance with Crossref schema requirements, for the purpose of assigning DOIs to SI publications housed online. This final version was submitted to Bess Missell, Systems Librarian at Smithsonian Libraries Digital Programs and Initiatives Division for future reference. Click image to download. |
Final Report, Smithsonian Office of Fellowships and Internships-Minority Awards Program, Summer 2016
At the end of my 10-week, paid internship with Smithsonian Libraries, I was required to submit a final report to the Minority Awards Program, who funded my internship with the Smithsonian Institution. Ethical Diagnostic Survey for LIS 610 at UHM, Fall 2015
For a final project, we were split into groups, and chose an ethical issue to examine. The group I was in, decided to focus on Hamilton Library and its Public Computer Use Policy. I worked in a group of four, and we all contributed to finding bibliographic resources, creating and distributing a survey for library users, and presenting our findings to the class. The final portion required individual papers with our findings, as well as our contributions made to the group. Click the image to the right to download. |
Finding Aid for LIS 652 at University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, Fall 2015
Our Intro to Archives Management class worked on processing the Save Sandy Beach Initiative Coalition/Ka Iwi Records, throughout the entire semester. For our final project, we worked in teams of 3 to produce a finding aid for the collection. I worked with team members, Jennifer Magdaloyo, and Malia Morales, to produce this final finding aid. LibGuide for LIS 601 at University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, Fall 2015
My midterm assignment for LIS 601, was a LibGuide, in which we had to select one library, and a subject or topic. I chose to focus on Cancer Resources for the Recently Diagnosed, with a target audience, of people living on Oahu. I feature resources available through the Hawaii State Library in the HSPLS, as well as many online resources. I enjoyed using LibApps in order to create a LibGuide. For more information, please view my LibGuide.

Search Strategies: Question Set 2 for LIS 601 at University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, Fall 2015
This exercise allowed us to work on answering queries from a patron (Professor Irvin filled the role of the patron), while we performed the role of the reference librarian, asking follow-up questions as part of the reference interview process, and then formulating search strategies and obtaining relevant information and resources within databases, indexes, and online resources. We gained experience using various health, law, business, government, geography, and travel resources; and performed website evaluations. |
Preservation Week Poster for LIS 619 at University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, Spring 2015
For Preservation Week, I created a 20" x 24" poster that would generate awareness about a public or private collection, and how to safely use the collection. I chose to focus on building awareness to preserve and protect your own family archives, by coming up with the concept that Family Archives Matter: Preserve Your Life - You are a Part of History. Because there are so many different mediums in a family collection, all with differing methods of preservation, I directed viewers to the Library of Congress' Preserving Your Family Treasures page on preservation of family manuscripts, photographs, and media, and also listed some quick tips. I used iWork Pages to create my poster. |
Midterm Art Portfolio for ART 123 at Kapiʻolani Community College, Fall 2014
Having always dreamed of painting, and after falling in love with The Smithsonian museums I visited while traveling, I enrolled in an Intro to Oil Painting class at Kapʻiolani Community College. Instructor & Artist, Stephen Niles, was a great help and inspiration. I've attached my midterm portfolio for anyone interested in viewing some of my artwork, and reading about the processes used to create them. |
